Here are the answers to a few questions we are often asked:
Who will be coming?
- It is not possible to answer this question fully until much nearer the
event. In practice, people usually come along in small groups that they
have organised themselves these can take a while to organise. If
you would like to find an old friend you have lost touch with, then we may
be able to help with this. The Varndeanian network is very wide and remarkably
well-oiled (especially after the dinner!) - if we don't know where someone
is, then we probably know someone who does! Just send
me the names of your old friends, and I'll try to track them down for
you.
What is the dress code?
- There is no strict "code". Although we state "lounge suit"
on the booking form, in practice this simply means smart clothing. For the
ladies this can be translated as anything from party frock to cocktail dress
or anything else smart you feel comfortable in!
How formal is the occasion?
- Although it is a sit-down meal, it is certainly not a formal occasion.
There will be plenty of time before and after the actual meal (as well as
between courses) to mingle, and a bar will be available for drinks. The
speeches will be short and light-hearted.
Why is there an early closing date for ticket applications?
- We will be closing applications on Friday 20th April, as we need to notify
numbers and arrange seating plans etc. It may be possible to squeeze people
in after this date - you will need to contact the dinner
organiser directly to discuss this.
