The Project

In the period 1884 to 1975 Varndean Grammar School for Boys, in Brighton, Sussex. UK, educated some 14000 students who then went on to careers in every walk of life. Jim Franks (1938-44) started the Millennium Project in 1996 with the objective of publishing a Who's Who of Varndean pupils and teachers from that period. The resultant work be a significant social document but it will also be a fitting memorial to a well-loved school whose academic and social achievements were known and respected far and wide.

Former pupils from either school, as well as students from the college are invited to complete and submit a form. This will be an important archive of Varndean through the years, and we would welcome contributions from everyone connected to the establishments.

We are also interested in details of ex-members of staff -- including their nick-names.

Please send any information on the accompanying data entry form. For an example of the sort of information we should like to compile please click Here.

Update February 2007: The pilot edition of the Who's Who has now been published - copies are available from the OVA Treasurer, Barrie Jerram, at a cost of £20.00 each.

It is likely that this edition still contains errors and omissions, so we would welcome volunteers who can edit and update the information. If you would like to be part of the team, please contact Clive Henly. This first edition contains information on some 3000 former students, though in many cases this is quite sparse.
